Martlesham Community Hall held its Annual General Meeting, together with a Management Committee meeting on Thursday 13 August. The AGMs normally take place in the April following the year being reported on – so April 2020 for 2019. However this year the AGM was delayed, due to the safety measures in place for the COVID-19 pandemic.
The AGM and committee meeting were held as a joint physical meeting in the Richards Room and online ‘Zoom’ meeting. Seven people attended and another nine people joined the meeting online.
The AGM elected Ian Read as Chairman and David Embery (the outgoing Chairman) as Vice Chairman. Ian thanked David & Pat Embery for their significant contribution over many years and their continuing commitment. David was re-elected as Treasurer and remains Hall Manager. Pat continues as Bookings Secretary.
Ian emphasised that, although COVID-19 has made life difficult for MCH this year, with the closure of the Community Hall and Richards Room since the end of March, the longer-term ‘MCH‘ priorities remain the same:
- M = Money – especially looking at alternative and additional income to supplement hire revenue. e.g. grants, fund-raising activities.
- C = Commitment – ‘spreading’ the workload between more committee members and other volunteers.
- H = Hires – maximising the occupancy of the Community Hall and Richards Room to give more income for the same overheads, by promotion and ensuring the spaces remain an attractive package to hirers (good facilities for hire fees charged).
The meetings endorsed David and Ian’s plans and work to reopen the facilities as a ‘COVID-19 secure locations’ on Tuesday 1 September, for our regular hirers only.
